Yenepoya Technology Incubator (YTI) is an initiative of Yenepoya Deemed to be University aimed towards identifying, fostering & mentoring innovators/entrepreneurs in the healthcare innovation process. It was started in May 2019 with an aim to accelerate the growth of innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem in and around western region of Karnataka and is registered as a Section 8, not for profit, organization under the name Yenepoya Foundation for Technology Incubation.

The incubator is strategically well placed within the vibrant ecosystem of the University leveraging on the infrastructure and expertise in the areas of Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health, Life Sciences, Biotechnology and Engineering. The incubator has access to state-of-the-art facilities to support high-quality research in interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary areas to meet contemporary challenges. Few of the thrust areas of research include geriatric and elderly care, nutrition, chronic and non-communicable diseases, molecular biology, stem cell, regenerative medicine, proteomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, nanoscience, biotechnology etc.

It is associated with an 1150 bedded, charitable teaching hospital which undertakes patient-relevant clinical research with high translational value and carries out cutting edge research on the unmet medical needs. Additionally, it also has dedicated small animal and large animal facility. The University is recognised by the DSIR and SIRO and also by the Life Science Sector Skill Development Council, NSDC for its BiSEP Programme, Dept. of IT, BT & ST, Govt. of Karnataka. The university has received funding from various national and international funding bodies such as BIRAC, DAE-BRNS, DBT, DST, ICMR, VGST, and MoEF.

Mission

The core mission of the Yenepoya Foundation for Technology Incubation is to provide a platform and act as a catalyst for ideation, translation and commercialization of technologies with societal impact.

Objectives

  • To identify, foster and mentor innovators / entrepreneurs in medical innovation process encompassing need identification, conception and implementation.

  • To encourage co-creation by involving students, facility and professionals from multiple disciplines.

  • Establish a channel for commercialization of University’s research and patents.

  • Provide necessary state-of-the-art infrastructure for prototyping, product development, testing and clinical validation.

  • Promote commercialization by liaising with funding partners.

  • To organize short-term workshops, boot camps and internship programs to raise awareness and motivate different stakeholders towards healthcare innovation.
